This morning at approximately 9:15 AM, Hillview Police responded to the 300 Block of S. Skyline Drive for a reported burglary in progress. While officers were responding to the scene they received information from the police dispatcher that the homeowner was holding the suspect at gunpoint in the driveway.

As officers arrived on the scene, they observed the suspect laying face down in the driveway with the homeowner holding him at gunpoint. HPD officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident and identified him as Nicholas A. Hassler, 28 years old, of Hillview.

The investigation revealed Hassler was attempting to gain entry into the victim's vehicle by utilizing a mouse trap, wire coat hanger, screwdrivers and a piece from a socket set when the homeowner noticed his actions. Officers discovered that Nicholas Hassler also lives on S. Skyline Drive, and he is a neighbor to the victim in this case.

Hassler is currently being held in the Bullitt County Detention Center charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking, Criminal Mischief and Possession of Burglary Tools.
